Ang Hea aka Red Prawn....

Durian season is happening now and almost everyone in the country knows where to get the best...where else but Balik Pulau, Penang.

The pictures above are Ang Hea, my favorite "brand" eventhough there are many out there which have won numerous awards locally and internationally. Some of the popular "brands" are raja kunyit, d24, d14, hor lor, little red, khong poh, capiri and 604.  Some of these are so popular and so in demand that they can even fetch exorbitant prices, up to nearly RM50 per kilo.

I like ang hea because its sweet with a slightly bitter ending taste.  The name ang hea means Red Prawn as the flesh looks like a cooked red prawn.  Ang Hea usually goes at RM10 to RM15 per kilo, cheaper during end of the season like now.

Go and grab one before the season is over. Durian season in Penang is usually from mid June until end of July.

Expect durians to cost more next year as we are going to export our award winning durians to China...
